Talks about X-Raying Continued with Anton Polyakov

November 8, 2021

We continue our talks on X-raying with Anton G. Polyakov, head of Radiology unit, Prof. Vladimirtsev Regional Clinical Hospital #2, Khabarovsk.

Anton, why did you choose the radiology specialty?

I just thought that radiologist, like any other diagnostic specialist, complements the team consisting of various specialists. When calling to a hospital, a patient in almost any case, from trauma to expected surgery, goes through X-raying. I believe it is impossible to render qualified medical treatment without up-to-date diagnostic facilities.

What do you like in your specialty?

To find and identify pathologies, compare images and clinical data, differentiate when diagnosing, get feedback from clinical doctors, see the teamwork results in your display. It is unreally cool!

How has the workload changed since the pandemic began?

Before the pandemic, we described 10 to 15 scans in a 6-hour shift. At the second wave peak, there was up to 62 scans per a radiologist per shift.

What benefits have you got with the CT Lungs implemented?

The CT Lungs service helps to quickly assess what percent of the lungs is lost to COVID-19. Doctors no longer waste their time on calculating the percent with the separate software.
The CT Stroke service is integrated with the Medical Information System, queue the patients by urgency, and suggest the pathology areas requiring closer attention.

What perspectives for radiologists do you see in AI-based solutions?

AI is very fast and accurate in distinguishing between the norm and the pathology. When routine images are abundant, it helps radiologists to focus on most complicated cases requiring high-level expertise.

Thank you for your everyday correct decisions and accurate diagnoses. We wish all radiologists to meet the norm more often. Take care of yourselves and your beloved ones!
